Summer Intensive ESL and Cultural Program

Morning ESL and Afternoon Activities is an all-inclusive program taught by BC government-certified teachers. The morning portion of this program focuses on practical speaking, listening, reading, vocabulary, and writing skills. All students will write an ESL Assessment Test at the beginning of the program. Students will receive a formal report card and a certificate of completion. This program will be hosted at Pinetree Secondary in 2025.

The afternoon portion of the program is a practical extension of the morning ESL class. It is an opportunity to experience Canadian culture and use newly learned English skills and vocabulary by participating in group activities and exploring the beautiful outdoors of the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia. The afternoon cultural program includes such activities as hiking, golfing, bowling, First Nations arts and crafts, and bus trips to popular sightseeing areas like GastownStanley Park, the Vancouver AquariumCapilano Suspension Bridge, the University of British Columbia, MetrotownMuseum of Anthropology, and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.

There are Canadian teenagers (volunteers) in the ESL classes and in the afternoon activities.

“It was a blast being a volunteer in the International Education Summer Intensive ELL and Cultural program for two years. In total, I volunteered over 90 hours. My role was to help students with the English language and to tag along with them on outdoor adventures. I am an active member in the community and have been on the district Student Leadership Council Executive for three years. I can say without a doubt that the International Education Summer Intensive ELL and Cultural program was the best place I have volunteered for. The experience was fascinating!!
